1. Gut Girl!

Give me any reason to dress up and i’ll take it!

    No really. I’m serious.

My basement has about 3 huge storage bins full of costumes that I’ve made and just random pieces that I have saved for future costume ideas.  I suppose this obsession comes from my background in dance. I always loved not only how the choreography and music selection created a story but also the costumes, hair, and make-up we chose. Or maybe I just like that you can put on a costume and take on a whole different personality in the same way that a well written book sucks you in to a characters life.

Every year at camp we have a theme and throughout the week the counselors dress up or we have a theme activity. In the past i’ve never really been into the themes at camp, but this year the theme was super heroes and I was inspired!

I created ‘Gut Girl’. This is how I imagine myself if I were a super hero. Of course maybe she’d be a little sexier but…this is a children’s summer camp for crying out loud! Gut Girl is strong, beautiful, intelligent, and most of all FIERCE. She has an ostomy bag full of glitter, a colon headband, and of course what every good super hero has - underwear over her clothes!  Fitting for an IBD superhero right? She does not have any typical super hero powers like the ability to fly, super strength, or the ability to read minds. She has Crohn’s disease and she fights that. She educates the world about her disease, she helps others who have it, and she inspires.

I had a really good time coming up with this costume. The back of my cape had

my logo on it.  Anyway, just thought I would share with you all my alter ego. I think she should be a comic.
